Ask Yourself These 5 Questions Before Purchasing New Desks For The Office

Custom Modern office furniture Dallas

Are you looking for new office desks in your company? Desks are one of the most important pieces of furniture you can have in an office. Employees spend hours and hours every day sitting at their desks, so you want those desks to be easy to work at. And in the C-suite having a really nice solid wood desk can take a nondescript office to the next level. But before you run out and start buying desks, here are five questions to ask yourself.

1) Are The Desks Comfortable To Sit At?

People are going to be spending quite a bit of time at these desks, so you want to make sure they’re a comfortable place to sit and work. Ask the employees what they like and dislike about their current desks. Maybe they want more surface space or dislike the shape of a corner desk.

2) How Long Will This Furniture Last?

Office furniture is quite an investment, which means you want whatever you purchase to be high-quality. This is one of the best reasons to choose wood when you’re shopping for desks. You can expect solid wood furniture to last for years. Plus, solid wood isn’t going out of style. It’s going to look just as good in your office 5 or 10 years from now as it does today.

3) What Are We Using The Desks For?

Before deciding on size or style of desk, make sure you take your employees’ take work styles into account. The type of work they’re doing helps determine what type of desk they need. Someone whose job requires a computer with three monitors is going to need more desk space than someone with a laptop computer. Talk with your employees and find out what kind of desk will help them work more efficiently.

4) Do They Fit Our Office Space?

One of the great things about purchasing wood furniture from a place like Rustic+Modern is that we can customize the desks for you. You’ll get to choose the exact size that fits your office spaces. Plus you also have options in wood type, finish color, and overall furniture style so you can match the aesthetics of your office.

5) What Kind of Budget Do We Have?

You might think that solid wood furniture is going to fall outside your budget. But it doesn’t have to. For example, choosing alder instead of something like walnut or hickory for your wood type will help keep prices lower. Also, keep in mind that sturdy, long-lasting furniture should be seen as an investment that will save your company money in the long-run because you won’t have to replace the desks anytime soon.

Are you ready to invest in high-quality, long-lasting, and impressively stylish desks for your company offices? You can browse the products in our online shop or get in touch with us to learn more about the options we offer for office desks. We look forward to helping you create desks that are the perfect fit for your office.

5 Reasons Why Customized Solid-Wood Furniture Is The Best Choice For Your Next Design Project

If you’re an interior designer, you want to find the best-fit furnishings for each project. But that’s not always easy if you have to choose from what’s available pre-made. You might find something that’s the right style, but it’s the wrong color. Or you’ll find a table made from the perfect wood but it’s not the right size for your space.

Customized solid-wood furniture solves those problems (along with a few others) for you. And when you work with a reliable furniture maker, you’ll be getting high-quality pieces that will make your clients as happy as you’ll be. So here are the top five reasons why customized solid-wood furniture is a fantastic choice for your next project.

1) You Choose The Materials

When you have furniture custom made for your project, you get to control what materials are used. That makes it easy to get the exact wood type you want for your design. And if you want to blend wood with some other material, the way we do when we add steel to our industrial and modern collections, customization gives you the chance to do that.

2) The Style Matches Your Needs

While you do have a wide selection of different styles to choose from in pre-made furniture, it’s just not the same as ordering a custom piece. Custom solid-wood pieces give you the opportunity to create a truly unique aesthetic for your client. Or if your client already has certain pieces that they want to match, you can work with the furniture designer to come up with a piece that’s just the right fit. Plus, if you need furniture that’s not a standard size or shape you can get it custom-made for the room.

3) Solid Wood Lasts A Long Time

When you’re working for a client, you want to turn-in a finished design project that they’ll still be happy with years from now. Solid wood furniture never really goes out of style, so it’s a great choice. Plus, well-made furniture can last for many years. Just think of how many old farmhouse tables from a hundred years ago have become family heirlooms. That’s the kind of quality you get from Rustic+Modern.

4) You Can Make It More Comfortable

Ergonomics are a hot trend in interior design right now. People want furniture that’s comfortable. For tables and desks, the ability to customize height can be invaluable when you’re designing for a specific person. For example, maybe your client works in their office all day and needs a desk that’s a little taller or shorter than normal so their feet rest comfortably on the ground.

5) Solid Wood Is Environmentally Friendly

The type of timber we use for making Rustic+Modern furniture can be harvested and re-planted sustainably. Plus, we also offer the option to use reclaimed wood in your custom furniture. This lets us give new life to previously-used wood, keep it out of landfills and burn piles, and cut back on the demand for new trees being harvested.

Solid wood furniture will be an asset to your next design project. But you don’t just have to take our word for it. Come see for yourself. You can browse our online showroom to see examples of our work or schedule a time to visit our design center. We’ll be happy to answer all your questions and get started designing exactly the type of furniture you need.

This Is What You Need To Know About Your Finishing Options When Ordering Solid Wood Furniture

It’s good to have options. But when you have a whole lot of different options it’s sometimes hard to decide exactly what you want. Here at Rustic + Modern, we strive to create the perfect customized products for your needs. You get to choose from a variety of customizations including style, size, and wood type. But those aren’t the only options you have.

You can further customize your furniture, barn doors, accent walls, and other items with different finishing options. These help make your piece unique and ensure it complements the room where you’re going to place your new furniture. So here’s a quick overview to help you pick which finishing touches to place on your order.

handscraped-distress-vs-no-distress

Distressed v. Smooth

You get to decide whether you want your finished piece to have a smooth finish or some texture to it. If you opt for smooth, you’ll be able to see all the beautiful wood grain and texture but when you run your hand over the surface it will feel smooth.

If you want your wood distressed, we can add a scraped or hammered effect. This wood will look and feel textured when you touch it. However, we’ll still finish it off so that there’s no risk of splinters or snagging from the distressed finish.

Live-Edge v. Uncarved

We offer natural and hand-carved live edges as an option for things like tables, desks, fireplace mantles, and countertops. This creates a unique look along one or more edges of the wood surface. Alternately, you can choose traditional straight edges along all four sides of your table.

If you do opt for a live-edge, you’ll get to choose the type of carving as well. We can do a more subtle look as well as deeper, more dramatic carving. It’s up to you.

Stained v. Unstained

If you want to enjoy the natural color of the wood you picked we apply a high-quality clear coat finish. This type of finish enhances and protects the beautiful color and wood grain. We can also stain most woods if you’d like that (please note that we do not stain reclaimed wood, hickory or black walnut).

There are several reasons you might want to stain your wood. Perhaps you want a certain type of wood because of its price or durability but it’s not the color you need. Or maybe you like the grain of one wood but need it stained to match the other furniture in a room. We’ll be happy to help you pick out the right stain and finish your furniture with that color. Simply contact us to learn more about the stains colors we offer, schedule a visit to our design center, or order your very own custom furniture piece.

How To Choose Between Wood Types

Deciding you want solid wood furniture is pretty easy. It’s durable, easy to care for, and environmentally sustainable. Once you make that decision, though, you’re faced with a few others. These are the fun questions – the ones related to what your finished furniture piece will look like.

Most of these decisions are about personal preference. What color? How large? Which style? With all the different choices, though, you might have some questions. For example, “How do I choose which wood to have my furniture made from?” To narrow down your options, ask yourself these questions:

What’s My Budget?

Some woods cost more than others. Take our classic farmhouse tables as an example. Prices start at $995 for knotty alder or rustic pine. For reclaimed wood or clear alder, the starting price goes up to $1250. Starting price for hard maple, red oak, and hickory is $1495. Black walnut is the most expensive, starting at $1750.

If you’re on a strict budget and want a dark colored wood, you’ll probably not want to go with black walnut. Instead, you might opt for a less expensive wood finished with a dark walnut stain. Click here to request a quote and get a better idea of exactly how much the table and woods you’re looking at would cost.

What Texture Do I Want?

Texture is partly determined by wood type and partly determined by finish. The wood type you choose determines what the grain will look like. Softwoods, like pine, don’t have a very pronounced wood grain and there will be visible knots. Hardwoods like alder, oak, hickory, maple, and walnut offer a more striking wood-grain. If you want more visible knots in a hardwood, choose knotty alder.

You can get all our woods with a smooth finish (though pine tables will have grooves between the boards). If you want a rough, rustic texture you have two options. You can either choose rustic pine as your wood or have us distress the wood. For rustic pine, we lightly sand to prevent splintering but don’t remove the natural rough texture and saw marks. For hand-scraped distress, we take your chosen wood and scrape and/or hammer it to create a more authentically rustic look.

Which Color Would I Like?

The natural colors of woods vary, and you can also customize the color of most woods with stains. We offer four options: natural color with a clear finish, special walnut stain, dark walnut stain, and ebony stain. The only woods we don’t stain are hickory and walnut. They’re just too beautiful to color! You can see pictures of what our woods look like with different stains by clicking here.

We also offer unfinished tables (at a $150 discount) for customers who want to stain and/or finish their tables themselves. If you’re ready to order a table or want to check out some of these woods in person, get in touch with us. We can answer your questions, get you a quote, or set up an appointment for you to visit our design center.

Business meetings, presentations, conferences – they all require a table large enough to seat the attendees. Here at Rustic + Modern, we create custom tables to your exact specifications. You can order something that’s exactly the right size for your room and for the number of people at your events.

Don’t settle for a generic, utilitarian conference table, especially in rooms where you’ll be meeting with clients and investors. Even if people don’t comment, “Wow, this is an impressive table,” you’ll know the table is figuring into their positive impression of your company.

Office Desks

There are several factors in play when looking for a perfect office desk. The size needs to fit your work area – small enough to leave room to move around the office, but large enough to hold all your work. You’ll also want a comfortable height for working and a durable material.

Solid wood desks provide a classy, professional appearance with the durability you need in office furniture. And because you can customize the height, size, and style of Rustic + Modern furniture, you can make sure the desk fits your exact needs.

Reception Furniture

The reception area provides people entering your corporate office with their first impression of your business. Old, rickety, or cheap furniture gives a negative impression as soon as people walk through the doors. Quality furniture helps ensure a positive first impression.

We can provide end tables and coffee tables for your reception area. You choose the size, shape, style, and wood type. Whatever decorating style you’re going for, we can help by designing furniture to match.

But sliding doors let you leave rooms open without the doors taking up floor space or accidentally swinging shut. Sliding barn doors are also easy to close when you need privacy. This makes them perfect for meeting rooms and private offices. We also customize the look of our barn doors, so you can opt for the more familiar rustic-style barn doors or go for a more sleek, modern look with smooth woods and dark stains.

5 Farmhouse Tables To Update Your Dining Room

Holidays are just around the corner. If you’re inviting guests over, there’s a good chance the party’s going to revolve around your dining room table. You can make a great impression (and get yourself a holiday treat to enjoy year-round) with a new solid wood farmhouse table.

These are the style of tables people think of when they think farmhouse dining room design. But they’re not limited to rooms decorated in a farmhouse motif. Use farmhouse-style tables in all types of rustic design, retro room décor, and even modern dining rooms.

Handmade Custom Wood Tables McKinney

The Classic

Sturdy, solid, simple. Our Classic Farmhouse Tables are a staple of rustic design. These tables feature a solid wood tabletop with straight, squared legs at each corner. They’d look fantastic in any casual dining room. For the most rustic option, choose hand scraped distressing for the tabletop. We can also make matching benches in your choice of wood.

Turn A Leg

Dress-up the classic farmhouse design with Turned Leg Farmhouse Tables. Whether you want to use the table in a room that’s slightly more formal or just want to add interest to your furniture, this table is a great choice. The legs can be rounded or squared depending on your preference. Stain the table for a classic appearance or have it painted and/or distressed if you prefer the shabby-chic look.

V-Braced

Another variation on the classic design, our V-Base Trestle Tables feature A-frame leg supports and a V-shaped center brace. These tables will look great in any dining room with a rustic decorating scheme. The creative construction also makes it a good choice for modern designs that feature wood as a decorating element.

Up On A Pedestal

Our newest addition to the Rustic Collection, Pedestal Farmhouse Tables let you seat more people without bumping against the table legs. In this design, the legs are tucked under the tables and held in place with a sturdy beam-constructed base. It’s perfect if you plan to entertain or if your family is growing.

Mix in Metal

Veering away from the rustic look, our Industrial Farmhouse Tables mix modern metal with classic farmhouse table design. These tables look similar to the Classic Farmhouse Table, but with metal pipes connecting the table top and the legs. It’s a bold furniture design that’s sure to draw compliments.

With all our tables, you choose from a wide variety of woods, stains, and smooth or distressed finish treatment. These customizations make the furniture extremely versatile. Match your table to existing wood in the room or make it a focal point with the exact characteristics you like. Whatever style you choose, we’ll make sure it’s quality craftsmanship that can last for years to come. Who knows? Sitting around your new farmhouse table might become a favorite holiday tradition.

Get To Know Your Live Edge Tables

Live edge tables are an extremely popular option right now in wood furniture. We’ve been getting a ton of inquiries about them lately. And no wonder since live edge design is so eye-catching and unique.

The down-side is that authentic live edge wood is pricey and it can be difficult to find in the size and style you want. That’s why we decided to incorporate the hand carved live edge option into our designs. This alternative saves you money, is designed to fit your space, and still looks fantastic.

Defining “Live Edge”hand carved custom furniture Dallas Tx

Authentic live edge tabletops feature the natural edge of the tree from which it was cut, and (depending on the desired width) they are oftentimes one slab of wood. Authentic live edge wood is highly desired and is somewhat rare, so the cost definitely reflects that. Because of the limited inventory, slabs are typically sold quickly, and it can be difficult to find the exact size that will work for your space.

A Hand-Carved Alternativerustic furniture Dallas Texas

Hand carved live edge tops are built just like our standard tops are – with multiple boards of the same wood type. But the edges are carved to reflect the appearance of authentic live edge. We love that we can offer this feature because it gives us more control over the final product.

Customers can choose the table top size, the wood type and the stain color, as well as the style of live edge they prefer (bold or subtle). Additionally, the hand carved option is quite a bit less expensive than an authentic live edge.

Get Your Own Live Edge

live-edge-custom-furniture-dallas-tx

All Rustic + Modern tables, benches, and desks are made to your exact specifications and we’ll work with you to create the type of edge you’re looking for. Hand carved live edge can be combined with our other customization options to create a piece of furniture unique to your home without the price of using authentic live edge wood.

If you’re interested in a hand carved live edge table, check out our furniture collections and ask about adding live edge to your favorite styles. Contact us if you have any questions or want us to get started on your very own custom live edge table.

Rustic Or Modern? Narrowing Furniture Options

In rustic decorating, the farmhouse and trestle tables provide a down-home country look. These styles look particularly rustic when you choose a distressed wood finish. For more modern decorating, our industrial and modern collections pair solid wood with metal. Depending on the style you’re going for, modern decor can use smooth woods with rich color and classic lines or go for a rougher industrial look with distressed wood and natural finishes.

When you order a new table or desk from Rustic + Modern, you’re purchasing a unique piece of furniture made to your exact specifications. We offer a wide range of options so you control the appearance of the finished piece. These options include wood type, stain color, and smooth or distressed finish. The style you choose depends on your individual preference and the type of room where you’re planning to place the finished furniture piece.

A Question of Wood

rustic-pine-handcrafted-tables-dallas-texas Custom Walnut Furniture Dallas Texas hickory-handcrafted-tables-dallas-texas

White pine has some knots and surface character. It’s a great choice if you prefer the rustic look. We also offer rough white pine that preserves natural imperfections and saw marks for a reclaimed wood look. All of our pine tables are made with grooves between the table boards.

Knotty alder and red oak also offer distinct wood grains, but with a smoother table finish. You can also opt for clear alder, which has very few small knots. For a finer, more even texture, choose hard maple. These woods work equally well in rooms with rustic decorations or in a more modern or traditionally decorated room.

Hickory and black walnut are fantastic wood choices, no matter what your decorating style. Both are durable woods with beautiful natural texture. We think our most stunning tables are the ones made with black walnut tops.

Pick A Color

Custom furniture Dallas

Color choice depends more on the other colors in the room you’re decorating than on whether the design is rustic or modern. Each of the different woods offers different color options and they’ll all look good on modern or rustic furniture. We don’t stain black walnut and hickory, so their natural color will shine through. For walnut, this is a rich brown color. For hickory, the color is light blond with darker streaks. You can choose to keep the other woods natural or have us stain them.

Pine and hard maple are naturally pale woods. Alder is a slightly darker tan color. Red oak’s natural color is light brown with a reddish hue in the grain. All these woods can be stained with special walnut for a rich brown color, dark walnut for a deeper brown, or ebony for a near-black finish. Click here to see pictures of the different woods with and without stain.

To Distress or Not To Distress

We also offer the option of distressing the table top. This scraped or hammered effect gives your table the authentically hand-crafted look of older furniture. Distressed wood is a popular trend in rustic, industrial, retro, and farmhouse style interior decorating. The texture looks rough but don’t worry – it’s not going to splinter.

Customizing your furniture piece comes down to personal preference. Do you prefer wood with a distinct grain, or something with a more subtle pattern? Would you prefer lighter or darker furniture in your room, and do you want natural wood or stained? Is a rough, rustic look better for your interior design, or will a smooth table top look best? With Rustic + Modern, you have the chance to make those decisions and get a table that fits your space perfectly.

How Custom Furniture Compares to Major Retailers

If you’re thinking about ordering a table, barn door or another piece of furniture from us, you probably want to know why that’s a better option than just picking something up at a furniture store. What is it that sets us apart from large furniture retailers?

Rustic+Modern is dedicated to producing unique furniture pieces that you can’t find anywhere else. Couple that with durable, high-quality craftsmanship and award-winning customer service and we think you’ll see why we’re different (and in many ways better) than large furniture stores.

Hardwood Furniture Mckinney How Custom Furniture Compares to Major Retailers

Higher Quality

All Rustic+Modern furniture is handmade from solid wood by professional craftsmen. This results in furniture that is very durable as well as aesthetically beautiful. While you’ll pay more for our furniture than something you pick up at a place like Nebraska Furniture or Pottery Barn, our quality reflects the higher price point.

Properly cared for, solid wood furniture can last for years and become an heirloom piece in your family. You shouldn’t have to replace furniture from Rustic+Modern anytime soon and if, over the course of many years, your solid wood furniture starts to show its age it can be refinished and made beautiful again.

Unique Pieces

When you shop at large furniture stores, most of the pieces are “cookie cutter” designs. There’s a limited selection of styles to choose from and little or no opportunity to customize the furniture to your specifications. That’s not the case with Rustic+Modern. We’ll work directly with you or your interior designer to come up with a piece that fits your space perfectly.

Let’s take tables as an example. You can choose a width of either 36 or 40 inches and a length of 4 to 10 feet for most styles. Our standard table height is 29 to 30 inches tall, but some styles can be made taller. You can also choose between two tabletop thicknesses: either 1 to 1-1/2 inches or 1-1/2 to 2 inches. On top of that, we offer several style variations in the Rustic, Modern, and Industrial collections as well as the opportunity to choose different wood types, stain colors, and finishing touches.

Personal Touch

While larger furniture stores often have friendly and effective customer service departments, they lack the personal touch we can bring to customer relationships. Family values, friendly service, and a high number of satisfied customer reviews earned us the “Best Of Customer Service” honor on Houzz in 2015.

We meet with customers individually at our design center to help them choose the best furniture and make sure they’re getting exactly what they want (contact us for an appointment). Once you’ve placed an order we’ll continue to update you with product photos during the building process. After your order is delivered, we offer a 60-day warranty against defects and are available to answer any questions you might have about how to care for your furniture.
